Ganda Propoganda

Most consumer electronics have been invented / discovered in the U.S. The internet is a US Defense Dept. invention. Turns out they don't know how to make the best use of these media.

Personally, I think this is just an excuse. There is no disputing that the U.S. is not winning the P.R. machine. But I don't think that has anything to do with the media exposure. Al Qaeda is beating the heck out of the US in the Muslim world, the same reason that the Republicans are beating the crap out of the Dems in the US.

They simply understand their target market better.

Getting a 24/7 news outlet will not help. Muslims who access the internet / TV have already probably made up their mind, this way or that. The minds that can be molded are those that are influenced by their religious leaders. The US has to take the place of these religiosos. They have to show those with the malleable minds that life under the "American way" is better than that under their current way. And there's probably a lot of Americans who don't think that's true!!

More often the viewpoints on US TV are just one sided. A good balanced news like NY Times or Washington Post never makes it to the TV. So you will always have the TV-fed-junta trying to understand why the mid-east dislikes them and also vice versa

Personally, I don't think the NYT is very balanced in covering the US. Where it differs from the TV media is that it covers foreign news with about as much diligence as the local news. That gives it a broader perspective and therefore feels more balanced.
